CROSIA

 

Crosia is a village situated on a hill, overlooking the Ionian sea, on the slopes of the Sila in Sibaritide rich in ancient history. It was founded, according to tradition, by the companions of Aeneas, landed in estuaries of Trajes (river Trionto) with the name Kreusa, wife of Aeneas.
-In 510 B.C. was the scene of the battle on the river Trionto that led to the defeat of Sybaris by the army Crotoniano led by Milo, the famous Olympic champion of struggle.
-In 440 B.C. welcomed the Sibariti expelled from the city of Turio initiative of Pericles rebuilt on the ruins of Sybaris.
-In medieval times, always on the river Trionto, was effected by the battle between the Goths and Byzantines.
-In 1625, Theodore Mandatoriccio was awarded the title of Duke of Crosia by King Philip IV. The fortress "Fortarizzi" connected to the towers of Giglio, St. Thecla, Cape Trionto, Castello di Mirto and Palaces with feudal mills and crushers, represent the historical memory of the feudal period.
-Crosia regained notoriety after the events that took place in extraordinary Marian Church of Our Lady of Piety and therefore attracts many faithful pilgrims of Our Lady.
